Temporary Certificates of Occupancy
Contractors and owners often have a need to occupy a building before all inspections have been approved and the final Certificate of Occupancy can be issued. If there are no outstanding life safety issues, you may request a temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO), which involves scheduling final inspections for all outstanding permit types on the permit (building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire). When all final inspections have been approved for TCO, contact inspection support staff at 541-682-5283 and they will review the permit, complete contact information, collect TCO fees over the phone with a credit card, issue the Temporary Certificate of Occupancy and email a copy of the certificate. Every step of the process can be handled over the phone. A typical TCO allows you to occupy the building for a period of 30 days while remaining inspections are completed. Under special circumstances, the City is happy to work with you if a longer time frame is needed.
For TCO questions including TCO fees charged please contact Inspection Support Staff at 541-682-5283.
