Many common household products contain hazardous substances that can cause environmental dangers if improperly disposed of.
Items such as paint, certain types of cleaners, solvents, batteries and other products that have caution labels reading Danger, Caustic, Warning, or Flammable can pollute groundwater and streams when not properly handled.
Several categories of items are banned from curbside disposal by Oregon law ORS 459.247 including motor oil, e-waste and many types of batteries. Safe disposal services for leftover or unwanted hazardous household materials are provided by Lane County's Hazardous Waste Collection Center.
