Residential Express Permits
Building and Permit Services currently offers over-the-counter permit application review program for specific residential projects. With your commitment of time and active participation in the review process, our goal is to be able to issue the permit on the same day! Plans examiners from various disciplines will meet individually with you to review the individual code requirements of their respective field. This provides the opportunity for discussion, clarification, and collaboration in order to make any necessary on - the - spot revisions to the plan set to bring designs into full code compliance.
Express Permit Hours
Projects are considered for Residential Express Permit (REP) review on Tuesday and Thursday. Depending on the project’s scope of work involved, the process may take an hour or it may take several hours from start to finish. The person authorized by the owner to make modifications to the plans/design must be present.
The following projects are eligible for this program:
- Interior remodel
- First story additions under 500 square feet
- Single-story detached accessory structures under 500 square feet
- Garage conversions
- Solar (both thermal and photovoltaic) which do not require engineering
- Decks
Apply through eBuild
Applications for Express Permits must be submitted through eBuild. You will upload a completed application, drawings and then will choose an appointment time. Appointment times can be scheduled for 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am, and 12:00 noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Depending on volume, additional appointments may become available.
Once your application has been submitted staff will conduct a completeness review for your project to verify your project qualifies for the Express Permit program and that you have submitted a complete package. After the completeness review is done, you will receive a notice advising you of next steps:
Option 1 - Notice of Accepted Application. This is confirming that your application is complete and your appointment time has been confirmed. When you arrive for your appointment, check in at the Building Permit counter. You should also bring a paper copy of your drawings to facilitate collaboration.
Option 2 - Notice of Incomplete Application. Your application packet is missing items that will be required for review. If you receive this notice, your appointment time will be released. When you submit required items, you will have the opportunity to schedule a new appointment time.
Option 3 - Notice of Ineligibility for Express Permits. Your project does not qualify for the Express Permit Program. Your appointment time will be released. Your project will be converted to regular plan review without you having to re-apply.
After your application has been accepted, you will be able to submit changes to your project up until the time of your appointment.
Qualifying Guidelines
